Christopher Abbott Biography

Christopher Abbott is an actor known for his work in film, television, and theater. Abbott moved to New York and studied acting at the Herbert Berghof Studio. He made his feature film debut in "Martha Marcy May Marlene" and appeared on Broadway in the revival of the play "The House of Blue Leaves." On Broadway, Abbott performed opposite Ben Stiller and Edie Falco, playing Ronnie Shaughnessy.

Abbott gained recognition for his role as Charlie Dattolo in the HBO series "Girls." He left the series after the second season, citing a lack of connection to the character. Abbott then focused on independent film, earning attention for his performance in "James White," which led to Best Actor nominations from the Independent Spirit and Gotham Awards and inclusion in Variety's "10 Actors to Watch."

Abbott has taken on a range of roles across genres, including portraying astronaut David Scott in "First Man" and a reporter in "Vox Lux." He played John Yossarian in the miniseries "Catch-22," based on the Joseph Heller novel, earning a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actor in a Miniseries or Television Film. Abbott also co-starred in the films "Black Bear," "Possessor," and "The World to Come."

In addition to his screen work, Abbott has maintained a steady stage career. His theater credits include "The Rose Tattoo" at Williamstown Theatre Festival, Lucy Thurber's "Where We're Born" at Rattlestick Theatre, Annie Baker's "John" at Signature Theatre, and Sam Shepard's "Fool for Love" at Williamstown Theatre Festival. He returned to the stage in the Off-Broadway revival of John Patrick Shanley's play "Danny and the Deep Blue Sea," starring opposite Aubrey Plaza.

Abbott has appeared in major studio productions and continued to work in independent film. He starred in Yorgos Lanthimos' "Poor Things" and appeared in "Bring Them Down." Abbott joined the Broadway revival of Arthur Miller's "Death of a Salesman," performing alongside Nathan Lane and Laurie Metcalf, a performance that earned him a Tony nomination. His career reflects a commitment to challenging roles in both mainstream and independent projects, with a presence in drama, independent film, and theater.
