Ato Boldon Biography

Caribbean track and field icon Ato Boldon amassed two world junior sprint titles and a combined total of eight World Championships and Olympic Games medals in his sprint career.

After retiring from competition in 2004, Boldon became CBS Sports’ sprint analyst, from 2005 to 2009.

Boldon was a senator in the Parliament of his native Trinidad and Tobago, from 2006-2007.

In 2007, he debuted on NBC Sports for its coverage of the USA Nationals, and the 2007 World Championships in Osaka, Japan

In 2008, his Olympic debut on NBC’s track and field coverage of the Beijing Olympics earned acclaim from such major publications as Sports Illustrated, USA Today, The Los Angeles Times, The Dallas Morning News and The Sports Business Journal.

The New York Times declared "Boldon is one of NBC's best analysts, a blend of athletic smarts, charisma, precise analysis and brashness."

His second Olympic broadcasting effort, at the London 2012 Olympics, garnered similar stellar reviews to his first, and in 2013, he was nominated for an Emmy award. He is the first and only broadcaster in U.S. track and field history nominated for an 'Emmy'.

In December 2016, Sports Illustrated named Boldon its 'Television Analyst of the Year', remarking “when you listen to him, you realize how rare it is to have a sports TV analyst make you a smarter viewer.”

Boldon has been a licensed private pilot since 2005.
