Former NFL Wide Receiver & Super Bowl Champion; CEO at Vault89 & Ventrk; Pro Bowl Selection
Doug Baldwin Biography
Doug Baldwin Jr. is a former NFL wide receiver known for his career with the Seattle Seahawks. Baldwin joined the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent after playing college football at Stanford University, where he led the team in receiving yards and touchdowns. He became the third all-time leader in team receptions and receiving yards, and, in a span of four games, joined Jerry Rice as the only player in league history with at least 10 receiving touchdowns in that stretch.
During his eight-season NFL career, Baldwin caught 493 passes for 6,563 yards and 49 touchdowns. His performance earned him a Pro Bowl selection and a four-year contract extension valued at $46 million, placing him among the highest-paid wide receivers in the league. Baldwin played a key role in the Seahawks' Super Bowl XLVIII Championship. An elbow injury in his final season limited his performance, but he finished the year with 37 receptions, 388 receiving yards, and two touchdowns. After retiring from the NFL, Baldwin spoke publicly about experiencing clinical depression, a topic that resonated with audiences beyond professional sports.
Baldwin is recognized for his advocacy in social justice. He helped launch the Seahawks Players Equality and Justice for All Action Fund and worked to connect law enforcement agencies with local communities, as well as collaborating with government officials on police reform initiatives. Washington State Governor Jay Inslee appointed Baldwin to the state's Clemency and Pardons Board. He was the Seahawks' nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, received the Martin Luther King Medal of Distinguished Service from King County, and was a finalist for ESPN's Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Award.
Baldwin contributed to the opening of the Family First Community Center in Renton, donating $1 million and partnering with the city to raise additional funds. He received the Paul G. Allen Humanitarian Award at the Seattle Sports Commission's Annual Seattle Sports Star of the Year Awards. Baldwin holds a Bachelor of Science in Science, Technology and Society from Stanford. After football, he transitioned to the technology sector, serving as CEO and managing director of Vault89, a venture capital firm in Renton, and as CEO of Ventrk, a company focused on health decision-making software. Baldwin's career spans professional football, technology entrepreneurship, and civic engagement, with a focus on resilience, community impact, and social justice.
