Samantha Tweedy

Samantha Tweedy is an executive, strategist, and attorney with two decades of experience advancing economic mobility and opportunity for Black Americans. She serves as the first chief executive officer of the Black Economic Alliance, a coalition of business leaders and advocates focused on economic progress and prosperity in the Black community, with an emphasis on work, wages, and wealth. Tweedy has led racial and economic justice initiatives across the public, private, and philanthropic sectors.

After graduating from Yale Law School and Duke University magna cum laude, Tweedy began her legal career at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, where she worked on school equity litigation addressing public school spending gaps affecting students of color and practiced commercial litigation. Her commitment to educational equity extended beyond the courtroom; Tweedy served as the first chief advancement officer at Uncommon Schools, a network of more than 50 public charter schools serving historically disadvantaged students of color, and founded and directed an elementary school recognized with the National Blue Ribbon School Award for closing racial and socioeconomic opportunity gaps.

Prior to joining the Black Economic Alliance Foundation, Tweedy was the first chief partnerships and impact officer at the Robin Hood Foundation, one of the nation's largest anti-poverty organizations. There, she developed and directed the Power Fund, investing in nonprofit leaders of color, and the High-Quality Schools Fund, supporting innovative school models for New York City's under-resourced communities. As inaugural president of the Black Economic Alliance Foundation, Tweedy secured significant funding and launched partnerships with corporate, philanthropic, research, and academic institutions to advance Black economic prosperity.

As CEO of the Black Economic Alliance, Tweedy leads a coalition of Black business leaders and advocates committed to driving economic progress for the Black community through public policy, advocacy, and engagement with government and business leaders. She has spoken on racial equity and economic justice at forums such as the Aspen Ideas Festival and the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Annual Legislative Conference, emphasizing the importance of diversity in the private sector. Tweedy serves on the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities Board of Directors, is a Pahara Fellow, and holds board and advisory roles with organizations focused on racial and economic justice, including The Highland Project. Her background in law, educational leadership, and philanthropic strategy positions her as a leading voice in the national conversation on Black economic empowerment.
