Lenny Clarke

Lenny Clarke is an American comedian and actor known for his distinctive Boston accent and significant influence on the New England comedy scene. Clarke was a prominent figure in Boston's comedy circuit during the 1980s, a period recognized as the heyday of Boston comedy. He played a key role in transforming the Springfield Street Saloon into the Ding Ho Chinese restaurant, which became a launching pad for the Boston comedy wave of that era. The Ding Ho is noted for being the starting point for the careers of comedians such as Bill Burr, Dane Cook, Paula Poundstone, and Steven Wright.

Clarke expanded his career beyond stand-up by writing and starring in the local television show, "Lenny Clarke's Late Show," which featured Steven Wright and Denis Leary and was developed with Boston comedy writer Martin Olson. Clarke and Olson shared an apartment known as "The Barracks," which served as a gathering place for comedians visiting Boston. His early career and connections within the Boston comedy community are highlighted in the documentary "When Standup Stood Out," which explores his collaborations with other notable Boston comics. Clarke also hosted "The Sunday Comics" on FOX, a program that showcased stand-up comedians and short films.
