Jon Voight is an award-winning actor whose career spans more than five decades across film and television. He is the winner of one Academy Award, with four nominations overall, and has received four Golden Globe Awards from 11 nominations. A respected figure in Hollywood, Voight is also the father of actors Angelina Jolie and James Haven.
Voight rose to prominence in the late 1960s with his Oscar-nominated performance as Joe Buck, a would-be gigolo, in “Midnight Cowboy” (1969). He solidified his status as a leading man during the 1970s with a series of acclaimed performances, including a businessman entangled in violence in “Deliverance” (1972), a paraplegic Vietnam veteran in “Coming Home” (1978), for which he won the Academy Award for best actor, and a fallen former champion in “The Champ” (1979).
Although his film output slowed during the 1980s and early 1990s, Voight earned continued recognition for his work, winning a Golden Globe and receiving an Academy Award nomination for his role as a ruthless bank robber in “Runaway Train” (1985). He returned to prominence in the mid-1990s with notable roles in “Heat” (1995), “Mission: Impossible” (1996), “The Rainmaker” (1997) and “Enemy of the State” (1998), earning another Golden Globe nomination for his supporting performance in “The Rainmaker.”
In the 2000s, Voight delivered a series of critically acclaimed biographical performances, portraying sportscaster Howard Cosell in “Ali” (2001), Nazi officer Juergen Stroop in “Uprising” (2001), President Franklin D. Roosevelt in “Pearl Harbor” (2001) and Pope John Paul II in the miniseries “Pope John Paul II” (2005). He later gained renewed critical and popular acclaim for his role in the Showtime series “Ray Donovan,” earning his fourth Golden Globe Award in 2014.
