Grant Williams

Former NFL Player, St. Louis Cardinals Chaplain Born in Hattiesburg, MS, Grant Williams has spent most of his life in the Southeastern United States. Upon graduating from Clinton High School (MS), he attended Hinds Community College and then received a scholarship to attend Louisiana Tech. lettering in football and baseball for the Bulldogs in 1994-5. He was named Team Captain and All-BigWest, 2nd Team for the 1995 season. Following his senior season, the 6’7″ 325 lbs offensive tackle was scouted and worked out by a number of NFL teams. He and the Seattle Seahawks reached an agreement on a 2 year rookie contract that ensured his every chance of making the team as a rookie. He ended up playing 4 years with the Seahawks. Williams’ NFL career spanned 10 years and included stints in New England and St Louis. In New England his play was instrumental in the Pats 2000 season which led to their first Super Bowl victory. John Madden singled out his solid play as he led the commentary for the television broadcast of the season finale with the Boston Globe recognizing him as the team’s “Unsung Hero.” He also had 3 productive years with the Rams. Overall, Mr. Williams started almost half of the games he played in and was consistently graded as a starter. He was named the New England Patriots Ernie Tavilla Award recipient in 2001. He was also nominated for the NFLPA’s Byron “Whizzer” White Award by the Patriots, which has as its recipient a man who exemplifies character and leadership in the community. Williams completed his NFL career in 2004 and was one of the NFL’s best swing tackles being able to consistently contribute to his teams’ chances to win at either the strong or weak-side position.
