Frank Wu

Frank H. Wu is the eleventh president of Queens College, where he oversees a campus of roughly 20,000 students and nearly 600 full-time faculty members. In 2021, he announced the creation of a new Business School and Arts School, expanding academic opportunities for students across disciplines.

Before joining the City University of New York system, Wu served as chancellor, dean, and William L. Prosser Distinguished Professor at UC Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco. He previously spent a decade on the faculty at Howard University, the nation’s leading historically Black college and university. In each of these roles, he was the first Asian American to hold such positions, and in recognition of his leadership, he received the Chang-Lin Tien Award in 2008.

A dedicated advocate for civic engagement and civil rights, Wu was appointed by the Obama administration to the National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity and by the Department of Defense to the Military Leadership Diversity Commission. He has also served as a trustee of Gallaudet University and Deep Springs College and received the John Hope Franklin Award in 2020 for his advocacy work.

Wu is the author of “Yellow: Race in America Beyond Black and White” and co-author of “Race, Rights and Reparation: Law and the Japanese American Internment.” Earlier in his career, he clerked for the late U.S. District Judge Frank J. Battisti and practiced law at Morrison & Foerster in San Francisco, dedicating significant pro bono time to indigent clients. He holds a B.A. from Johns Hopkins University and a J.D. with honors from the University of Michigan.
