Anushay Hossain

Anushay Hossain is a Washington, D.C.-based author, feminist policy analyst, and women's health advocate whose career focuses on exposing and addressing systemic sexism and racism in American healthcare. Hossain began her work in women's rights as an intern at Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee, where she worked on microfinance initiatives for women and girls. She earned a master's degree in gender and development at the University of Sussex and has held roles at the Feminist Majority Foundation and United Nations Development Fund for Women. Hossain spent a decade as a feminist policy analyst on Capitol Hill before transitioning to full-time writing.

Hossain is the author of "The Pain Gap: How Sexism and Racism in Healthcare Kill Women," a nonfiction book examining women's healthcare in the United States. The book, published by Simon & Schuster, draws on research and personal stories to highlight disparities in clinical trials, maternal health, mental health, and the impact of racism and domestic violence on women's health outcomes. "The Pain Gap" has been published internationally and became an Audible bestseller.

Hossain continues her advocacy through the "Pain Gap Podcast," which explores medical bias, healthcare trauma, and the need for healthcare reform. As a feminist policy analyst specializing in women's health legislation, Hossain is a regular on-air guest at CNN, MSNBC, and PBS. She has guest-hosted Al Jazeera English's "The Stream" and served as a panelist on PBS' "To The Contrary."
