Black Ice Biography
The Tony, Peabody and Emmy Award winning, 6 time HBO Def Poet Black Ice is credited with being a major pioneer of this millennium in turning spoken word into a mainstream art form. Bringing to life a quote by business mogul & yogi Russell Simmons, “When I saw Black Ice, I knew the world was ready for poetry.” His work is utilized in high school curricula to course studies at the academically acclaimed Ivy League Universities, Harvard and Columbia. With no signs of slowing down, Black Ice brought the audience of The Arsenio Hall Show to their feet, in the most re-aired episode of the 2014 season. TV-One utilized his legendary spoken word status for their online weekly reviews of each episode of season 2 & 3 of Lexus present Verses and Flow, culminating in a featured appearance in this past September’s season 4 episode 4.

Recognizing his talent, many world renowned musicians like Nas, Fabolous and Kendrick Lamar to name a few, have had Black Ice appear on their platinum selling albums. He blew the 1 million plus crowd away at the LIVE 8 WORLD CONCERT and inspired an overwhelming ovation from the ½ million people attending the "One Nation Rally". He is the only poet ever to be featured on BET's Rap City or to receive the "hip-hop quotable" in The Source Magazine.
He has voiced national advertising spots for Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Heineken, Phat Farm and Courvoisier. Black Ice is also the exclusive voice-over artist for the audio versions of the Russell Simmons books Do You: 12 Laws to Access the Power in You to Achieve Happiness and Success and the 2011 release Super Rich: A Guide to Having It All. Black Ice continues forge on and push the envelope with the art form, having written the mantra for Under Armour's 2011 basketball line as seen in Slam, Kicks and Sports Illustrated magazines as well as online commercial spots. Not to mention his 2013 remake of the classic Gil Scot-Heron single “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised,” for the major motion picture premiere of Free Angela – And All Political Prisoners, a historical documentary produced by Jay-Z and Will & Jada Smith.
Whether it's debating at the barbershop, occupying Wall Street, touring with platinum recording artists, or teaching Master Writing Courses from Antwerp, Belgium to Guyana, South America, Black Ice continues to tour venues across the country and internationally for performances and speaking engagements. Consistently honing his skill in all aspects of his gift with one goal in mind – to transcend spoken word into new arenas.
