Rib Hillis first got his start on the ABC soap opera “Port Charles†and has since appeared in dozens of television shows, such as “Ugly Betty,†“Two and a Half Men,†“CSI,†“America’s Next Top Model.†and “CSI: Miami.†Rib is most notably known for his role in changing the lives of one deserving family a week as part of the design team on the Emmy Award winning “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.†Rib has recently been featured on “EXTRA†and TV Guide’s “Hollywood 411†to share some of his experiences with the show. “This show changes people’s lives. It brings so much good and happiness to people who are so deserving. I am humbled and honored to be a part of it.â€
Hillis is no stranger to sharing his knowledge of home improvement/building, having hosted two shows, “Model Citizen†and “Get a Grip,†giving him the chance to combine his ease in front of the camera with his joy in working with his hands. Hillis is also featured on AOL’s “Minute Fixes.†giving homeowners solutions to common household issues. Born in Suffern, NY and raised in Newton, MA, Hillis' joy in working with his hands was instilled in him by his dad, a self-reliant man who'd rather re-roof his house than have someone do it for him. While in college, Hillis framed houses and did demolition and construction work. He has also had a successful handyman business, but had to put it on hold due to the increasing demands of his acting/modeling career.
Rib was proud to move on to movies, being cast in the starring role of “Taos,†a film that was selected for two international film festivals and was the winner of the Santa Fe film festival. He also had a lead role in the feature film “Propiedad Ajena.†a dramatic movie shot on location in Mexico that premiered in November 2008. “Propriedad Ajena†has the honor of having been featured in the Paris Latin Film Festival. Since college, he's been a much sought-after model, working in Milan, Paris, Barcelona, London, Sydney, New York, Miami and Los Angeles for such publications as Uomo Vogue, GQ, Esquire, a doing a feature in OK Magazine, and most recently a cover with Men's Health, not to mention countless national and international commercials. Rib has also started becoming a familiar hosting face on some of TV Guide’s specials that show an inside look into Hollywood.
Hillis' passion for acting is second only to his passion for family. He is the proud father of boy/girl twins, Dane and Hannah Rose, whom he loves chasing around the Southern California surf. Fatherhood is a lifelong dream come true for Hillis, and his proudest achievement. His other passions/hobbies include bull riding, rock climbing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, cooking, and riding motorcycles.
Rib also likes to keep busy volunteering and working with several charities, including the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital, Habitat For Humanity, The Jimmie Johnson Foundation, and the Red Cross, and has served as a spokesperson for Be The Match Foundation, Be The Match, and the National Marrow Donor Program.
