
Seconde Nimenya is an international award-winning author, TEDx speaker, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) thought leader known for her work in inclusive leadership. Raised in Burundi, East-Central Africa, Nimenya experienced civil war, ethnic conflict, and challenges accessing education in a culture that discouraged girls from attending school. After immigrating to North America and settling in the United States, she drew on her personal experiences to build a career focused on advancing DEI and inclusive workplace practices. Nimenya holds a Master of Business Administration and a Graduate Certificate in Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging Leadership from Harvard University, grounding her expertise in both academic research and practical application.
Nimenya is the author of five books spanning memoir, leadership, and young adult literature. Her memoir, "Evolving Through Adversity," received the International Book Award. She adapted her story for younger readers in "A Long Way to School: A Story of Overcoming Challenges and Never Giving Up." Her novel "A Hand to Hold" demonstrates her range as a storyteller. In "Unlocking Diversity: How to Create Inclusive Cultures in a World of Differences," Nimenya provides guidance on building inclusive cultures and addresses topics such as race, equity, and inclusion.
As a TEDx speaker, Nimenya delivered the talk "We Are Not All That Different," which explores race and cultural identity.
