Rick McIntyre

Rick McIntyre is a wolf behavior expert and author who has spent more than four decades studying and documenting wild wolves in America's national parks. A retired National Park Service ranger, McIntyre began his career with the U.S. National Park Service and later worked at Yellowstone National Park, where he was responsible for explaining the park's wolf reintroduction program to visitors and conducting wolf research. During his tenure in Yellowstone, McIntyre accumulated more than 100,000 wolf sightings and contributed directly to the Yellowstone Wolf Reintroduction Project, becoming one of the most experienced wolf observers in the field.

McIntyre's research and insights on Yellowstone's wolves have been featured in major media outlets, including This American Life, Washington Post, and Wall Street Journal. His fieldwork, which includes over 12,000 pages of detailed observations on wolf behavior, serves as the foundation for the "Alpha Wolves of Yellowstone" book series for adults and the "Chronicles of the Yellowstone Wolves" series for children, co-authored with David A. Poulsen. His books, such as "The Rise of Wolf 8: Witnessing the Triumph of Yellowstone's Underdog" and "Wolf 8: The True Story of a Father and His Adopted Son," have been adapted for a feature film with Stampede Ventures.

In addition to his writing, McIntyre has helped an estimated 100,000 people observe wolves in their natural habitat, combining education with wildlife conservation. His work has played a role in shifting public perception of wolves, promoting appreciation and understanding of the species. McIntyre donates income from his books to nonprofit organizations, including Make-A-Wish, Red Cross, Texas Children's Hospital, Yellowstone Forever, and Conservation Nation, which supports diversity in wildlife and conservation careers.
