Patricia Watson

Patricia Watson, Ph.D. is a psychologist at the National Center for PTSD. She is a clinical psychologist with a focus on co-developing educational training materials in post-disaster, military, and first responder settings, such as the Psychological First Aid (PFA) Field Guide and the Skills for Psychological Recovery (SPR) Manual, produced by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network and the National Center for PTSD, as well as the Combat Operational Stress First Aid (COSFA) Field Guide, produced by the Department of Defense, the Defense Centers for Excellence, and the National Center for PTSD.

With the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and Department of Forestry, she has co-authored versions Stress First Aid manuals for fire and EMS professionals for structural and wildland firefighters and EMS professionals. With the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training, she co-authored a version of Stress First Aid for law enforcement and public safety personnel. She has served as a subject matter expert and program manager for online courses and toolkits in burnout and STS, Clinician Administered PTSD Scale (CAPS 5), police toolkit, disaster mental health, provider resilience, PTSD and clergy, PTSD and sleep, anger management, case formulation, and STAIR treatment for those with PTSD. She co-headed an integrated VA/DoD effort to create and evaluate a comprehensive curriculum to educate VA, DoD, primary care providers and rural providers on aspects of military culture. She has additionally co-edited a number of books and articles on disaster behavioral health interventions, resilience and early intervention.
