Montel Williams

Montel Williams is a television host, Emmy Award-winning talk show pioneer, military veteran, and advocate whose career spans television, public speaking, and health awareness. Williams began his career in the United States Marine Corps and became the first African American to attend the Naval Academy Prep School before graduating from the United States Naval Academy with a degree in engineering and a minor in international security affairs. He earned additional qualifications in Russian and Mandarin from the Defense Language Institute. His military service includes two Meritorious Service Medals, two Navy Commendation Medals, and two Navy Achievement Medals. Williams served in the Navy as a lieutenant commander before transitioning to television.

Williams launched his public speaking career while still in the military, addressing youth nationwide on leadership and overcoming adversity. His speaking engagements led to appearances on various media platforms and eventually to television production. He is best known for hosting "The Montel Williams Show," which aired for 17 years and addressed a wide range of social issues. Williams received a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Show Host and the New York State Psychological Association's Beacon Award for his efforts to bring psychological information to a broad audience.

After being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Williams became an advocate for MS awareness and treatment, founding the Montel Williams MS Foundation. He is active in the movement for medical marijuana legalization and access for individuals with chronic illness. Williams received the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists' Disability Awareness Award for his advocacy work. As an author, he has published eight books, four of which are bestsellers, and has contributed to the military history genre.

Williams also hosts "Military Makeover with Montel" on Lifetime, a series focused on renovating homes for military families. His acting credits include appearances on shows such as "The Resident," "All My Children," and "Guiding Light," for which he received an NAACP Image Award nomination. He has served as a host for the televised Annual Hollywood Christmas Parade special, including the ninety-second annual edition. Williams authored "The Sailing of the Intrepid," recounting the USS Intrepid's first combat voyage during World War II.

Williams' commitment to service is reflected in his board memberships at Fisher House Foundation, The Ann Romney Center for Neurologic Diseases, and The Research & Recognition Project. He has served as a national spokesman for the Partnership for Prescription Assistance, a program that helps low-income patients access prescription drugs. Williams is recognized for his work in television, military service, health advocacy, and public speaking, with a focus on resilience, service, and community impact.
