Michael Afenfia Biography
Michael Afenfia is a diversity, settlement and inclusion legal practitioner based in Saskatchewan, Canada. He is the bestselling author of the critically acclaimed novels, "When the Moon Caught Fire," "A Street Called Lonely," "Don’t Die on Wednesday," "The Mechanics of Yenagoa," "Rain Can Never Know," and "Leave my Bones in Saskatoon." Afenfia is a member of the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild.
Previously, Afenfia was a speechwriter to the governor of his home state, Bayelsa in Nigeria, while simultaneously serving as a member of the state library board. About the same period, he served as Chairman, Association of Nigerian Authors, Bayelsa State Chapter.
Afendia is a lawyer with an MBA and is a member of the Nigerian Bar. His Canadian work experience came from his employment as a cultural bridging facilitator and acting co-team lead with the Saskatoon Open Door Society. In the course of his career, he has acquired multi-disciplinary experience across private and public sector organizations, notably, and working with the Presidency in Nigeria as senior special adviser on research and documentation.
