Liz Elting is an American entrepreneur, philanthropist, and author recognized for co-founding TransPerfect, a leading provider of language and business solutions. After earning an MBA in finance and international business from the Stern School of Business at New York University and a BA in modern languages and literatures from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, Elting founded TransPerfect out of an NYU dorm room. Drawing on her fluency in multiple languages and experience in the translation industry, Elting identified a need for a service-oriented enterprise capable of delivering complex projects efficiently and accurately.
Elting served as co-CEO of TransPerfect for nearly 26 years, overseeing its growth into a global company with more than $600 million in revenue and over 4,000 employees across 90 cities. Under her leadership, TransPerfect received recognition from Inc. 5000, Deloitte Technology Fast 500, and earned multiple Stevie Awards, including "Company of the Year" and "Fastest Growing Tech Company of the Year." Crain's New York Business named TransPerfect one of the largest privately held companies and one of the largest women-owned companies for more than a decade. Elting is listed on Forbes' America's Richest Self-Made Women list.
Following a four-year corporate and legal dispute, Elting sold her stake in TransPerfect. She then focused on advocacy and entrepreneurship, publishing the book "Dream Big and Win: Translating Passion Into Purpose and Creating a Billion-Dollar Business," which became a national and Wall Street Journal bestseller. Through her regular column at Forbes, Elting addresses women's rights, professional development, and entrepreneurship, advocating for women to pursue leadership roles and business ownership as a means of achieving economic and social empowerment.
Elting established the Elizabeth Elting Foundation to address systemic barriers and promote change for women and underserved communities. Through NYU Stern's Endless Frontier Labs, she launched the Elizabeth Elting Venture Fund, providing seed capital for women-led, early-stage startups in science and technology. Elting also created the American Heart Association's Elizabeth Elting Fund to support women-led organizations and entrepreneurs in New York's under-resourced communities, advancing health equity.
Elting has received honors including the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, the American Express Entrepreneur magazine Woman of the Year Award, the National Organization for Women's Women of Power & Influence Award, the Charles Waldo Haskins Award for business and public service from NYU Stern, the American Heart Association's Health Equity Leadership Award, and the Alliance of Women Entrepreneurs' Vertex Award. Elting serves on the NYU Stern School of Business Board of Directors and the Trinity College Board of Trustees, and is a frequent speaker at NYU and Columbia Business Schools, sharing insights on entrepreneurship, leadership, and women's empowerment.
