LeVelle Moton

LeVelle Moton serves as the head men's basketball coach at North Carolina Central University, his alma mater, and is recognized for his contributions to HBCU basketball. As a player for the Eagles, Moton became the school's third all-time leading scorer with 1,714 points and earned the nickname Poetry 'n Moton. He received All-CIAA First Team honors, NCAA Division II South Atlantic All-Region First Team recognition, NCAA Division II All-America Honorable Mention, and was named CIAA Men's Basketball Player of the Year. Moton was later inducted into the North Carolina Central University Athletics Hall of Fame. Following his collegiate career, he played professional basketball in Indonesia and Israel, averaging 25 points and more than five assists per game.

Moton began his coaching career at West Millbrook Middle School before leading the Sanderson High School boys basketball program, where he guided the Spartans to a 59-25 record and back-to-back Cap-7 tournament championships. He was named head coach at North Carolina Central University after serving as an assistant coach. Moton holds a master's degree in special education with a focus on learning disabilities.

As head coach, Moton has established North Carolina Central University as a consistent contender in NCAA Division I men's basketball. He became the program's all-time winningest coach, with more than 250 victories, and has led the Eagles to multiple conference championships in both the regular season and tournament. Under his leadership, the team achieved three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and secured MEAC Tournament titles. Moton's accolades include MEAC Coach of the Year, MEAC Tournament's Most Outstanding Coach, BoxtoRow.com HBCU National Coach of the Year, and finalist honors for both the Hugh Durham National Coach of the Year Award and the Ben Jobe National Coach of the Year Award. He has received 11 Coach of the Year awards and numerous nominations.

Moton's impact extends beyond basketball. Raised in a single-parent household, he has spoken publicly about overcoming adversity and the importance of community support. He received the President's Lifetime Achievement Award for service to the community. Moton is CEO and founder of the Velle Cares Foundation, which supports organizations promoting health, education, and life skills for children and families in at-risk situations. The foundation's annual Single Mother Salute event recognizes more than 100 single mothers from the Triangle region, honoring their resilience and perseverance.

Moton is known for his work as a philanthropist, community leader, and expert in sports leadership, teamwork, and personal development. He is a sought-after speaker who addresses corporate leaders, student athletes, and community organizations, sharing insights on overcoming adversity and building purpose-driven teams.
