Kenneth Ginsburg

Kenneth R. Ginsburg, MD, MSEd, is a pediatrician recognized for his expertise in adolescent health and resilience. Ginsburg is a professor of pediatrics at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He serves as an attending physician in the Division of Adolescent Medicine and is co-director of the Center for Parent and Teen Communication at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. His practice focuses on social adolescent medicine, emphasizing prevention and the impact of social context and stressors on physical and emotional health.

Ginsburg also directs health services at Covenant House Pennsylvania, which serves homeless and marginalized youth in Philadelphia. His career has centered on empowering parents to raise resilient children and preparing professionals to guide youth development. His work unites clinical practice, teaching, research, and advocacy with a focus on building internal resilience in teenagers. Ginsburg co-developed a teen-centered research methodology that combines qualitative and quantitative approaches, enabling youth to propose and explain solutions to social challenges and helping clinicians better serve adolescent populations.

Ginsburg is the author of several books for parents, educators, and healthcare professionals, including "Raising Kids to Thrive: Balancing Love with Expectations and Protection with Trust," "Building Resilience in Children and Teens: Giving Kids Roots and Wings," and "Letting Go with Love and Confidence," all published by the American Academy of Pediatrics. He also authored "Reaching Teens: Strength-Based Communication Strategies to Build Resilience and Support Healthy Adolescent Development," a multimedia toolkit that offers trauma-sensitive communication strategies and includes films demonstrating key concepts in adolescent health and resilience.

Ginsburg has provided consultation on resilience-building and youth development to organizations such as Boys and Girls Clubs of America, National Congress of American Indians, and Military Child Education Coalition. He works with military parents and professionals to incorporate stress reduction and resilience strategies for military-affiliated children. Ginsburg is a frequent lecturer to parent and professional audiences nationally and internationally.

Ginsburg's contributions to pediatric medicine and adolescent health have been recognized with honors including the Young Investigator Award and a visiting professorship from the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine, the Lindback Award for distinguished teaching from the University of Pennsylvania, and the Humanism in Medicine Award.
