Katie Albright

Katie Albright, J.D., is an attorney and children's advocate with more than three decades of experience in legal and nonprofit leadership. Albright specializes in children's health, childhood mental health, adverse childhood experiences, and child welfare reform. She serves as the founding executive director of Equity and Excellence in Early Childhood (E3C) at the University of California-Berkeley, an interdisciplinary public impact alliance focused on advancing early childhood learning and well-being through research, policy, and practice. E3C is a joint initiative of the UC Berkeley School of Education and the Goldman School of Public Policy.

Prior to her role at UC Berkeley, Albright was chief executive officer and president of Safe & Sound, a San Francisco-based nonprofit dedicated to improving the safety, health, and well-being of children and families through service, education, collaboration, and advocacy. During her tenure, the organization expanded its reach, providing parenting support through more than 6,500 TALK Line phone counseling sessions and delivering family strengthening programs, including therapy and parent education, to nearly 3,000 children and their caregivers. Albright also moderated a public series attended by more than 1,000 participants from across the state and country, featuring discussions with panelists from child welfare and community-based organizations.

Albright's career includes service as San Francisco deputy city attorney, San Francisco Education Fund policy director, and Preschool California co-director of policy and outreach. Earlier, she co-founded and taught at the Kayole-Gitau Nursery School and Community Center in Nairobi, Kenya. She also worked as an associate at Latham & Watkins and clerked for the United States District Court in Maryland.

Albright has held appointments including chair of the First 5 California Commission of Children and Families and member of the San Francisco Homelessness Oversight Commission. She serves on the boards of The Aspen Institute and the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver. Albright is also a senior advisor with Alliance for Community Advocacy, providing consulting services to governments, higher education institutions, foundations, and nonprofits to improve outcomes for children, youth, and families.

Albright earned her J.D. as a Public Interest Law Scholar, graduating cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center. She is an inaugural Ascend Fellow with The Aspen Institute and received a Social Entrepreneurship SEER Fellowship at Stanford University. Albright's expertise in legal practice, nonprofit leadership, and policy development positions her as a leading voice on early childhood equity, child welfare reform, and systems change, engaging audiences from government, academia, and the public sector.
