Joe McClain Jr.

Joe McClain Jr., known professionally as JoeMac, is an author, spoken word artist, mental health advocate, and inspirational speaker whose work spans literature, performance, and public engagement. A retired Navy veteran, McClain developed more than 2,000 hours of diversity, equality, and inclusion training, as well as personal and professional development programming during his military service. This background informs his ongoing contributions as a public figure and performer.

After completing his education, McClain enlisted in the United States Navy, relocated to San Diego, and continued to write. He is the author of 12 books, including "The Writer's Block," "BANDAGES," and the memoir "Mentally Discharged," which explores his mental health experiences as a Black man in the United States Military and addresses challenges often left unspoken in similar communities. His literary works have been acquired by individuals in organizations such as the NBA, NFL, MLB, and the Hollywood entertainment industry, establishing his presence in both sports and entertainment circles.

As a former top 25 world-ranked poet, McClain has performed nationally and internationally, engaging audiences with his spoken word presentations. His breakthrough performance before an audience of more than 6,000 led to further opportunities, including sharing the stage with Def Jam poets Black Ice, Ise Lyfe, Rodzilla, and Paul Mabon. McClain has also opened for R&B and Neo Soul artists Joe, Jon B, and Dwele. His work has been featured on Button Poetry and All Def Digital Poetry, prominent platforms in the poetry community.

A multiple-time slam-winning spoken word artist, McClain is recognized for his compelling speaking engagements. His topics include poetry, mental health, social justice, civil rights, diversity and inclusion, and the veteran experience, making him a frequent speaker at corporate events, community gatherings, and keynote sessions. Based in San Diego, California, McClain integrates his military background with his storytelling abilities to offer a distinctive perspective in his writing and public speaking.
