Jesse Van Tol

Jesse Van Tol is the president and CEO of the National Community Reinvestment Coalition, a leading organization focused on economic justice and equitable access to financial services. Van Tol oversees initiatives to promote fair access to capital, credit, and banking services for more than 600 members, advocating for economic justice and community reinvestment. Since joining the organization, he has held various leadership roles, including chief operating officer and senior positions in organizing, membership, communications, policy, and research.

Under Van Tol's leadership, the National Community Reinvestment Coalition has expanded its impact, facilitating significant investments in low- and moderate-income communities through Community Benefits Agreements with banking institutions. The organization manages substantial assets and an annual budget supporting its mission to advance fair lending, community development, and financial inclusion. Van Tol is responsible for the annual Just Economy Conference, which has seen notable growth in attendance and influence. As board chair of the NCRC Community Development Fund and a member of the NCRC Development Corporation Board, he contributes to community development finance and affordable housing initiatives.

Van Tol serves on several advisory boards, including the Federal Reserve Board Consumer Advisory Council and the Affordable Housing Advisory Councils of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. He is also a member of consumer advisory councils for major financial institutions such as Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase, Truist, TD, Fifth Third, Huntington National Bank, First Horizon, Quicken Loans, and Santander. Additionally, Van Tol serves on the board of the Maryland Consumer Rights Coalition and the executive committee of Americans for Financial Reform.

Van Tol is a frequent speaker and lecturer on economic justice, community development, and fair lending. He has testified before Congress, appeared on NPR, Financial Times Films, and Bloomberg TV, and has been interviewed by the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Reuters, Bloomberg, Financial Times, AP Newswire, Politico, and American Banker. His opinion pieces have been published in the Washington Post, New York Times, and American Banker. At the Just Economy Conference, Van Tol has engaged in discussions with leaders in community development finance, including Federal Reserve Governor Michael Barr.

Van Tol was a senior fellow with Humanity in Action, an international human rights organization, and a communications institute fellow with Opportunity Agenda. He holds a bachelor's degree in history and international studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an executive education certificate from the Harvard Kennedy School through NeighborWorks' Achieving Excellence program. Van Tol is recognized for his institutional knowledge, experience in securing financial commitments, and ability to connect community organizations with major financial institutions in the field of economic justice and community reinvestment.
