Jerry Seeger

Jerry Seeger, 2016 Broward County (FL) Theatre Teacher of the Year, is a graduate of the University of Missouri (BA in Theatre Arts) and the Burt Reynolds Institute for Theatre Training and has appeared in commercials, films and industrial films as well as on stage. He is also a former member of Actors Equity Association.

Seeger’s one person show, "TEACH!" (formerly "Demerits, Detentions & Dismissals: The Works of Taylor Mali") utilizes some of the works by the first-ever four-time National Slam Poet Champion, teaching advocate and former teacher Taylor Mali to illustrate the dignity of the teaching profession. Seeger has spent more than twenty years in the classroom teaching a variety of subjects including Physical Education, Speech and Debate, Acting, Theatre History, Creative Writing, and Weightlifting. While at St. Thomas Aquinas High School (Ft. Lauderdale, FL), he created Fine Arts Signing Day, a ceremony celebrating high school seniors declaring their intentions to pursue their artistic passions at the collegiate level, similar to what high school athletes do on National Letter of Intent Signing Day.

His performance of "TEACH!" has garnered praise from critics and teachers alike. Described by some as the “anti-Professional Development” Professional Development and compared to a TEDTalk, "TEACH!' pays homage to the world’s greatest profession. Rather than speak at teachers, this show engages educators and illustrates the great things they do on a regular basis each and every day in their classrooms, where they are not only teachers but also support systems, guidance counselors, parents, life skills coaches and willing listeners. While theatrical in nature, the performance can be modified to become a keynote speech.
