Eric Verdin

Dr. Eric Verdin is a geroscientist and the president and CEO of the Buck Institute for Research on Aging, an independent research center focused on aging and age-related diseases. Verdin holds a medical degree from the University of Liege and completed advanced training at Harvard Medical School. He has held faculty positions at institutions including the University of Brussels, the National Institutes of Health, the Picower Institute for Medical Research, and the Gladstone Institutes. Verdin is also a professor of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco and the University of Southern California.

Verdin's research examines the molecular mechanisms that regulate aging, with emphasis on metabolism, diet, and the immune system. His laboratory was among the first to clone and characterize histone deacetylases, enzymes involved in epigenetic regulation and aging. He has published nearly 300 scientific papers, holds more than 17 patents, and is ranked among the top 1 percent of most-cited scientists in the field. Under Verdin's leadership, the Buck Institute has initiated clinical trials and collaborations that have advanced longevity science.

Verdin has received awards such as the Glenn Award for Research in Biological Mechanisms of Aging and is an elected member of scientific organizations including the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Association of American Physicians. He has founded multiple biotechnology companies and serves on advisory boards for scientific and public health organizations. Verdin is recognized for his expertise in healthy aging, longevity research, and biomedical innovation.
