Dr. Jeffrey Obomeghie

Dr. Jeffrey Obomeghie, widely known as Dr. Jeffrey O, is a Nigerian-American hospitality executive, educator, author, and leadership coach whose career spans from front desk agent to global industry leader. Obomeghie began his hospitality career as a front desk clerk and advanced to chief executive officer, holding leadership roles at major U.S. hotel brands including Marriott, Hilton, Radisson, and Embassy Suites. He has received awards for service excellence at Marriott Sugar Land Houston and Embassy Suites Dulles Airport and was named General Manager of the Year by Remington Hotels.

Obomeghie was appointed vice president of New Generation Hotels and promoted to chief operating officer, overseeing multiple hotel properties in the Northeast United States, before joining Mercury Hotels as chief executive officer. Over his executive career, Obomeghie has managed a hotel portfolio valued at more than $1 billion, including brands such as Renaissance, Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, and Sheraton, with combined annual revenues exceeding $250 million.

He later served as president and CEO of the International Hospitality Institute, an organization with offices in Texas and board members worldwide. The International Hospitality Institute is recognized as the largest advocacy and standards organization serving the global hospitality industry. Under Obomeghie’s leadership, the organization created the Hospitality Code of Ethics, known as the HCODE. He is also the founder of the International Hospitality Hall of Fame, publisher of Global Hospitality Magazine, and former chairman of the Hoteliers Guild Academy of Hospitality Arts.

Obomeghie was inducted as a member of the Hoteliers' Guild, an invitation-only society of leading hoteliers based in Lugano, Ticino, Switzerland. He serves as chairman of the board of directors at Telacoach, a coaching, therapy, and advisor platform, and has served on Marriott International's Rooms Advisory Board and other boards. He has been profiled on the cover of several business and trade magazines for his advocacy work. Obomeghie is the creator of the START Model, a goal-setting, goal-tracking, and problem-solving model for coaches and business executives.

As an author and speaker, Obomeghie has published several books of fiction and nonfiction, including "Dead or Alive," "The World According to Jeffrey O," "The Collector of Butterflies," "Abraham Lincoln is Not Dead," "Get Rich, Get Happy, Get Love," and "The Woman Who." Kirkus Reviews described his thriller "Dead or Alive" as a "razor-sharp crime tale" and praised its protagonist as a "superlative hero." He is recognized for his ability to connect with diverse audiences and deliver impactful messages on leadership, hospitality management, and workforce development.

Obomeghie holds a master's degree in human resource management and training from Amberton University and a doctorate in leadership studies from Johnson University. His doctoral dissertation focused on a narrative analysis exploring perceptions of leadership among hourly workers in hotels in the Southwestern United States, reflecting his commitment to elevating every level of the hospitality workforce. Through the International Hospitality Institute, Obomeghie supports global access to hospitality education, including for learners from under-resourced and economically challenged countries.
