Dr. Bradley Thomas, known professionally as Dr. Brad, is a licensed clinical psychologist and fitness trainer whose work focuses on the intersection of mental health, physical wellness, and social justice. Thomas is the CEO and founder of Dr. Brad Therapy, a private psychotherapy practice in Manhattan specializing in the treatment of adults and couples. His clinical practice addresses anxiety, depression, relationship conflict, trauma, identity concerns, and life transitions, utilizing an integrative approach that incorporates psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and person-centered therapies.
Before entering the field of psychology, Thomas received a football scholarship to Boston College and graduated with honors from Hampton University. His background in athletics and fitness led him to work as a fitness trainer in New York City, where he supported clients in achieving physical health goals and developing resilience through a growth mindset. This experience shaped his understanding of the mind-body connection, discipline, motivation, and the challenges faced by high-functioning individuals managing internal struggles.
Thomas earned a master's degree in psychology from The New School and a doctorate in clinical psychology from the City University of New York Graduate Center. He also holds an MFA in creative nonfiction from The New School. His doctoral research examined the effects of stereotype threat on implicit racial bias in African Americans. Thomas completed his pre-doctoral internship at Woodhull Hospital, providing psychotherapy and psychological assessment to children, adolescents, and adults, followed by a post-doctoral fellowship at the Center for Progressive Psychotherapy.
Thomas is recognized as a public voice on mental health, race, and wellness. He has presented on topics such as implicit racial bias and antiracism to Fortune 500 companies and appeared on "Your Best Self TV" on WCBS-TV, discussing mental health stigma in the Black community. He contributed a chapter titled "The Racial Melancholia of Aspiring Black NFL Coaches" in a Rowman and Littlefield publication and serves as a contributing writer on mental health for Authority Magazine. As a keynote speaker, Thomas addresses subjects including the impact of the mind-body connection on work performance and the effects of implicit racial bias in business environments.
Thomas is dedicated to reducing mental health stigma in communities of color. With only 4 percent of psychologists in the United States identifying as Black, he aims to encourage greater representation in the field and promote access to mental health services. He founded Brad Thomas Mind Body to further support clients in addressing the psychological barriers to personal growth. Through his clinical practice, public speaking, and writing, Thomas continues to bridge the fields of physical fitness and mental health, engaging diverse audiences across professional and cultural contexts.
