Dionne Brand Biography
Dionne Brand is a poet, novelist, and essayist whose work addresses social justice, gender, and race. Brand has published 10 books of poetry and has received the Governor General’s Award, the Trillium Book Award, the Pat Lowther Memorial Award, and the Griffin Poetry Prize. She served as Toronto’s third poet laureate and has been named to the Order of Canada.
Brand is a professor in the School of English and Theatre Studies at the University of Guelph. She resides in Toronto.
