David Delmar Sentíes

David Delmar Sentíes is a social entrepreneur, author, and workforce equity activist whose career focuses on the intersection of technology, education, and economic justice. A graduate of Boston University College of Fine Arts, Delmar Sentíes is a professional designer and interface developer. Before founding Resilient Coders, he worked at PayPal, where he led a team that designed and built digital advertising concepts for brands such as Starbucks, Coca-Cola, FedEx, and Pepsi. His entry into the technology sector was unconventional; after graduating and seeking work in design, he taught himself to code on the job and recognized the need for broader access to self-directed learning in technology.

Delmar Sentíes founded Resilient Coders, a nonprofit coding bootcamp based in Boston and Philadelphia, which provides free, stipended training in software engineering to people of color and connects graduates with technology jobs. The organization began with Delmar Sentíes volunteering at the Judge John J. Connelly Youth Center in Roslindale, working with young men and identifying the need to expand the initiative. He secured resources and funding to launch Resilient Coders, with support from the technology community and local organizations. The program is structured to remove financial barriers, offering stipends to students and not requiring repayment from future wages.

Resilient Coders has grown to train hundreds of low-income individuals in software development, placing graduates in roles at companies including Wayfair, Constant Contact, athenahealth, Humana, and various startups. The organization has been recognized by the White House and featured in national media such as NPR and TechCrunch. Delmar Sentíes has also been acknowledged by El Planeta as an influential member of Boston's Latinx community.

Drawing on his experience, Delmar Sentíes authored "What We Build With Power: The Fight for Economic Justice in Tech" (Beacon Press), which examines systemic inequities in the technology industry and advocates for worker organizing led by Black and Latinx technologists. The book critiques diversity and inclusion initiatives, explores the impact of philanthropy on racial inequalities, and calls for significant changes in tech culture. In addition to his writing, Delmar Sentíes consults with mission-driven organizations in technology and workforce development, maintaining his commitment to expanding access to automation-resilient careers and promoting economic justice in the tech sector.
