Boyah J. Farah Biography
Boyah J. Farah is an award-winning Somali-American writer and memoirist whose work explores race, belonging, memory, migration, and identity in modern America. Born in Somalia and raised partly among nomadic communities, Farah immigrated to the United States as a refugee. His journey navigating race and identity in America deeply informs his writing and teaching.
He is the author of "America Made Me a Black Man: A Memoir," which was nominated for an NAACP Image Award and named an NPR Best Book of 2022. His essays and commentary have appeared in CNN, The Guardian, Salon, NPR, The Los Angeles Times, The Boston Globe, Harvard Kennedy School Review, and other major outlets. He is also the recipient of Salon’s Best Essay Award.
Farah’s work speaks directly to young people coming of age in a country still negotiating identity, belonging, and power.
