Al Barratt

Founder & CEO of Grenade, Alan Barratt is one of the leading and most exciting business figures in the UK. The early mission was simple: ‘Create an iconic weight-loss product and become THE brand within Sports Nutrition’.

After quickly realizing at a young age that the 9-5 desk life wasn’t for him, and subsequently dropping out of school to work for minimum wage at a gym in Birmingham, Barratt created his own sports nutrition distribution business in 1999. This experience inspired him to set up his own business and in 2010, he founded Grenade. The business quickly became one of the leading brands for supplying protein bars, performance nutrition and apparel to consumers across the world. In 2021, Mondelez acquired the majority interest in Grenade, valuing the business at over $250M.

Barratt is one of the most inspiring figures and public speakers within business, and frequently leaves audiences feeling inspired to go after their own goals. His business has received multiple industry awards, and Barratt himself has been awarded the EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2014, Businessman of the Year 2013 and Great British Entrepreneur of the Year 2018. When Barratt is not working on the business, he also hosts the hit podcast Pull The Pin -- where he has interviewed the likes of Steven Bartlett, Yianni Charalambous, Alfie Deyes and Alex Partridge -- and has subsequently become a private pilot, philanthropist, and mentor for Virgin Start Up.
