Carl-Henric Svanberg Biography
Mr Svanberg was appointed a non-executive director of BP on 1 September 2009 and, in succession to Mr Sutherland, became chairman of BP on 1 January 2010.
Mr Svanberg spent his early career at Asea Brown Boveri (ABB) and the Securitas Group, before moving to the Assa Abloy Group as President and CEO. From 2003 until 31 December 2009, when he left to join BP, he was President and CEO of Ericsson, also serving as the chairman of Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB. Mr Svanberg continues to be a non-executive director of Ericsson, and is also on the boards of the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise, Melker Schörling AB and the University of Uppsala.
He is a member of the Steering Committee of the Global Alliance for Information and Communication Technologies and Development (GAID) and of the external advisory board of the Earth Institute at Columbia University.
Mr Svanberg received the King of Sweden’s medal for his contribution to Swedish industry.
