Wm. Jahmal Miller

Wm. Jahmal Miller, MHA, DHL, is a healthcare executive, author, corporate board member, and thought leader in health equity and inclusion. Miller earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Columbia University and a Master of Health Administration from the University of Southern California. Western University of Health Sciences awarded him an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters for his contributions to health and human services. Touro University recognized Miller with the Mosaic Achievement Award for his work advancing diversity and inclusion.

Miller's career includes leadership roles at major institutions in American healthcare and public health. Appointed by Governor Jerry Brown, Miller served as Deputy Director of the California Department of Public Health's Office of Health Equity and as the state's lead advisor on reducing health and mental health disparities. In this role, confirmed by the California State Senate, he led statewide initiatives to promote equitable social, economic, and environmental conditions. Before joining CommonSpirit, Miller was Blue Shield of California's inaugural director of corporate reputation and thought leadership. He has also held leadership positions at Kaiser Permanente and Sutter Health, contributing to health system strategy, public health policy, and health equity initiatives.

As chief administrative officer, Miller leads Dignity Health Mercy Medical Group's organizational development, health system relationships, talent management, and business operations. He provides strategic and operational support to medical practice physicians and advanced practice clinicians, and serves as a liaison for financial matters, provider compensation, analytics, contracting, strategic partnerships, and health equity programs. Miller is recognized internationally for his expertise in health care, public health, health equity, mental health, and public policy.

Miller is also an author. His book, "Equity, Equality & Justice for All," was published by Pegasus Books. The memoir draws on his experience as California's first health equity officer and as an advisor to Governor Jerry Brown on health and mental health disparities. In the book, Miller explores how optimal health and well-being are influenced by factors such as where a person lives, learns, works, plays, and prays, rather than solely by medical care. As a keynote speaker, Miller addresses audiences nationwide, providing insight into health equity, public health, and social justice.
