Victor Blackwell

Victor Blackwell is an Emmy Award-winning journalist and a correspondent and co-anchor of CNN "This Morning Weekend" with Amara Walker, based in Atlanta. He also hosts "First of All with Victor Blackwell," which airs Saturdays on CNN. Blackwell is recognized for his reporting in American broadcast news, with a focus on social accountability and national journalism.

Blackwell began his journalism career writing for Community Times newspaper, later working as a producer for Radio11 WBAL in Baltimore and as a co-producer for WHUT-TV in Washington. He went on to work for WPMT-TV in York, Pennsylvania, and WHAG-TV in Hagerstown, Maryland. Before joining CNN, Blackwell anchored at WPBF 25 News in West Palm Beach, Florida, where he received several regional Emmy nominations, two Telly Awards, Associated Press awards, and honors from the Society of Professional Journalists. He also earned the Edward R. Murrow Award and the UNITY Award from the Radio Television Digital News Association for a special report on the disproportionate dropout rate among young Black men.

At CNN, Blackwell anchored the weekend editions of "New Day" and "CNN Newsroom" from the network's global headquarters in Atlanta. He received an Emmy Award for Outstanding News Analysis: Editorial & Opinion for his commentary "'Infested,' He Says," addressing President Donald Trump's description of Rep. Elijah Cummings' Maryland district. Blackwell has reported and anchored on-the-scene for breaking news stories, including CNN's Emmy-nominated coverage of the shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, as well as the devastation in the Bahamas following Hurricane Dorian.

Blackwell holds a Bachelor of Arts in broadcast journalism from Howard University and was named one of the university's Top 150 Distinguished Alumni. His coverage of significant news stories has informed the public and contributed to conversations around social justice, equality, and public policy. Blackwell continues to engage audiences through his work in broadcast journalism and news commentary.
