Tony Abbatine

Tony Abbatine, J.D., is recognized for his work in sports performance coaching, combining legal expertise, entrepreneurship, and athletic knowledge in his approach with players and teams across various levels of competition. After earning a law degree from Pace University and serving as an attorney and state prosecutor, Abbatine transitioned from law to focus on baseball and softball instruction, founding Frozen Ropes. As founder and director of mental performance at Frozen Ropes, he has developed a U.S.-based company that provides curriculum and programming to players, teams, and coaches through multiple locations nationwide. Abbatine oversees the training program and instructional model implemented at all Frozen Ropes facilities.

Abbatine is regarded as an authority in visual psychology and mental performance, with a specialization in vision, mindset, and emotion. He is a certified Open Focus Coach, emphasizing visual processing and visual search strategies for athletes. As a consultant, Abbatine has worked with player development departments for several Major League Baseball organizations, including the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, Colorado Rockies, and New York Mets. He has consulted with more than 12 MLB teams and numerous players in the area of visual psychology. Beyond baseball, Abbatine has served as vision coach for the USA Women's Olympic Softball team and has consulted with college programs and other professional teams.

Abbatine collaborated with Mariano Rivera, Manny Ramirez, and Mike Bordick to produce instructional baseball videos for players and coaches. He also partnered with Team USA Olympian Jessica Mendoza and Frozen Ropes to create a widely recognized hitting video for fastpitch hitters. Abbatine has appeared as a guest analyst for TBS Sports during the American League Divisional Series and on ESPN Radio, providing insight on player development at the major league level.

As a writer and educator, Abbatine is a national columnist for Baseball America, covering player development topics in baseball and softball. He has taught and lectured on sports psychology at several colleges, focusing on mental performance training and its application on and off the field. His work has been featured in Sports Illustrated, The New York Times, USA Today, Newsweek, ESPN, and other national media outlets. Abbatine is a frequent speaker at national coaching events, including the American Baseball Coaches Convention and the National Fastpitch Softball Coaches Convention, as well as international sporting events in cities such as Dubai, Kuwait, Rome, Amsterdam, Paris, and Frankfurt. He is known for integrating physical, mental, and visual skills in baseball and softball performance training.
