Tiësto Biography
Tiësto, born Tijs Michiel Verwest, is a Dutch DJ and record producer widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in electronic dance music. He began DJing at age 14, initially playing acid house and new beat, before emerging as a global star and helping bring EDM into the mainstream. He has frequently been cited as a defining force in the genre and is often referred to as the godfather of EDM.
Tiësto has received numerous honors over his career. A Mix magazine fan poll named him the “Greatest DJ of All Time,” while DJ Mag readers voted him the best DJ of the past 20 years in 2013. In 2015, he won his first Grammy Award for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical, for his remix of John Legend’s “All of Me,” following an earlier nomination. In the Netherlands, he was awarded the Golden Harp in 2007 for his complete musical catalog and was later ranked the country’s 40th Greatest Citizen of All Time.
