The Kentucky Headhunters are a Grammy-winning band from Edmonton, Kentucky, renowned for their fusion of country, Southern rock, blues, and honky-tonk. Formed in 1968 as Itchy Brother, the group evolved into The Kentucky Headhunters in 1986, comprising brothers Richard and Fred Young, cousins Greg Martin and Anthony Kenney, and Doug Phelps. Their 1989 debut album, Pickin' on Nashville, achieved multi-platinum status and earned them a Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. The album featured hits like “Dumas Walker” and a cover of Don Gibson’s “Oh Lonesome Me,” both of which charted in the Top 40.
Over the years, the band has undergone several lineup changes, with Doug Phelps rejoining in 1996 and lead vocals being shared among members. They have released ten studio albums, including Soul (2003) and Big Boss Man (2005). The Kentucky Headhunters continue to perform, blending high-energy rock with deep Southern influences, and have maintained a loyal fan base through decades of touring and recording.
