Jayceon Terrell Taylor, known professionally as The Game, is a rapper and entrepreneur from Compton, California, recognized for his influence on the West Coast hip-hop scene. Taylor emerged as a prominent figure in hip-hop, noted for his raw lyricism, storytelling, and depictions of life in Compton. After surviving gunshot wounds, Taylor immersed himself in classic hip-hop albums, which inspired his transition from street life to a career in music.
Taylor released his debut album, "Untold Story," independently before being discovered by record producer Dr. Dre and signing with Aftermath Records. His major-label debut, "The Documentary," debuted at number one on the Billboard charts, selling over 586,000 units in its first week. The Recording Industry Association of America certified "The Documentary" double platinum, and it has sold more than five million copies worldwide. Taylor received the World Music Award for World's Best Selling New Male Artist and earned two Grammy Award nominations for the single "Hate It or Love It."
His second studio album, "Doctor's Advocate," also debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart, marking his second consecutive number-one album. Taylor continued his momentum with albums such as "LAX," "The R.E.D. Album," which again debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, and "Jesus Piece." He later released "The Documentary 2" and "The Documentary 2.5," further establishing his presence in hip-hop. The album "1992" debuted at number one on Billboard's Top Rap Albums Chart and tied Drake for most number-one album debuts since the chart's inception, while also giving Taylor his eighth number-one on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart, tying him with 2Pac and Lil Wayne among all acts.
Beyond music, Taylor has appeared in films and television shows and contributed his voice to video games such as "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas." His acting credits include a supporting role in the police drama "Street Kings" and appearances on programs such as Jimmy Kimmel LIVE!, Larry King, Hell's Kitchen, and the film "All-Star Weekend." Taylor has also founded record labels, including The Black Wall Street Records and Prolific Records. He is active in social advocacy, using his platform to address issues such as police brutality, criminal justice reform, and community empowerment, extending his impact beyond the music industry.
