Tariq Harb

Tariq Harb is a Jordanian-Canadian classical guitarist known for his contributions to the contemporary classical music scene. With Palestinian heritage, Harb transitioned from a career in finance to international recognition in classical guitar. At age 25, after leaving his initial profession, Harb studied guitar with Roddy Ellias, Patrick Kearney, Jerome Ducharme, Dr. Garry Antonio, and Dr. Jeffrey McFadden, and participated in masterclasses led by Jason Vieaux, Pavel Steidl, Rémi Boucher, and Manuel Barrueco.

Harb has received several honors, including First Prize and the Audience Choice Award in the Barrios WorldWideWeb Competition, First Prize in the Montreal International Classical Guitar Competition, and the Governor of Tokyo prize in the Tokyo International Classical Guitar Competition. He was selected as the CBC Radio NEXT! guitarist and performed live at Glenn Gould studios in Toronto. The Jordan Times has noted his playing for its technique, refined taste, and sense of interpretation.

Harb has performed in North America, Europe, the Middle East, South America, and Asia, with appearances at venues such as the Roman Amphitheatre in Jordan, Bunka Kaikan concert hall in Tokyo, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Edinburgh's International Conference Centre for TEDGlobal, and Cairo Opera House. He has also participated in major guitar festivals, including the Sauble Beach Guitar Festival and the Guitar Foundation of America Convention and Competition.

Harb's discography includes four solo albums: "From Bach to Barrios," "A Guitar Through the Eras," "Harb Plays Sor Studies," and "Copla." He released a DVD to accompany "Harb Plays Sor Studies," featuring video performances and educational content on the Sor/Segovia Studies. As a composer, his suite "Spirit" has been published by Les Productions d'Oz, reflecting his approach to solo guitar composition. His duo project, "17 Strings," with oud player Abdul-Wahab Kayyali, released the album "Reinventions" on ATMA Classique.

Harb holds a master's degree from McGill University and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Toronto, and serves on the faculty at Concordia University. He has appeared at music festivals and concert halls worldwide as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral soloist, establishing his presence in the field of classical guitar performance and education.
