T. Colin Campbell

Dr. T. Colin Campbell is an American biochemist recognized for his contributions to nutritional science, particularly in the study of diet and disease, including cancer. Campbell serves as the Jacob Gould Schurman Professor Emeritus of Nutritional Biochemistry at Cornell University, where he held an endowed chair in the Division of Nutritional Sciences. He introduced the term plant-based diet to present his research on nutrition at the National Institutes of Health.

Campbell conceived, organized, and directed the first research project between China and the United States, involving Cornell University, Oxford University, the China Academy of Preventive Medicine, and the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. This 20-year study examined mortality rates from cancer and other chronic diseases across 65 counties in China, correlating these data with dietary surveys and blood work. The New York Times described the study as the Grand Prix of epidemiology. Campbell has received more than 70 grant-years of peer-reviewed research funding and authored more than 300 research papers.

Campbell co-authored with his son, Tom Campbell, the book "The China Study," which has sold more than 3 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 50 languages. The book explores the relationship between animal product consumption and chronic illnesses such as coronary heart disease, diabetes, breast cancer, prostate cancer, and bowel cancer. He is also the author of "Whole," "The Low-Carb Fraud," and "The Future of Nutrition." "Whole" appeared on the New York Times bestseller list.

Campbell has been featured in documentaries including "Forks Over Knives," "Food Matters," and "PlantPure Nation." He has participated in the TED Talks series, with his presentation "Resolving the Healthcare Crisis" viewed extensively on YouTube. Campbell has delivered more than 1,300 public lectures on health and nutrition internationally and nationally.

Campbell has received lifetime achievement awards from organizations such as the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, the Plantrician Project, and the American Institute for Cancer Research. He founded the nonprofit T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies, which promotes optimal nutrition through science-based education, advocacy, and research. He also established the Plant-Based Nutrition Certificate, an internationally recognized credential in the field. Throughout his career, Campbell has advocated for evidence-based nutrition science and challenged conventional dietary perspectives in the health and wellness industry.
