Stewart Copeland

Stewart Copeland is a musician, composer, and drummer known for his work as the co-founder and drummer of The Police. Copeland formed The Police with Sting and Andy Summers, establishing the band as a significant force in rock music. His drumming style incorporates elements of reggae, Arabic music, jazz, and punk, contributing to the band's distinctive sound and influencing the evolution of rock drumming. Copeland's early career included performing with the progressive rock band Curved Air, where he made his recording debut on the albums "Midnight Wire" and "Airborne."

Copeland's songwriting contributed to The Police's early repertoire, including the band's first single, "Fall Out." The Police achieved global success, selling more than 60 million records. Copeland has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Police, as well as the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame and the Classic Drummer Hall of Fame. He was also named a Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government.

After The Police, Copeland pursued a career as a composer for film, television, and video games. His film scores include "Wall Street," "Rumble Fish," and "Four Days in September." He received an Emmy nomination for his work on the Showtime series "Dead Like Me." Copeland also composed theme music for television shows such as "The Equalizer," "The Amanda Show," and "Dead Like Me," and created music for the "Spyro" video game series. His work in classical music includes the opera "Holy Blood and Crescent Moon" for Cleveland Opera, as well as adaptations of Edgar Allan Poe's "The Cask of Amontillado" and "The Tell-Tale Heart," and "The Witches Seed."

Copeland's collaborations include the instrumental album "Divine Tides" with Ricky Kej, which won the Grammy Award for Best New Age Album. He released "Police Deranged for Orchestra," reimagining Police songs for orchestra with musicians such as Rusty Anderson and Armand Sabal Lecco. Copeland also created "Wild Concerto," a classical concerto based on animal sounds, recorded at Abbey Road and featuring live classical instrumentation and percussion. He is the author of "Stewart Copeland's Police Diaries," a book based on his diary entries from the early years of The Police. Copeland's career encompasses rock, classical, film, and video game music, reflecting a diverse and influential presence in the music industry.
