Simón Silva

Simón Silva is an American contemporary artist, author, and speaker whose journey from the agricultural fields of California to international galleries and lecture halls informs his creative work. The seventh of 11 children in a migrant farmworker household, Silva began working in the fields at age six, traveling across California, Oregon, and Washington with his family. These early experiences, marked by hard labor, cultural identity, and limited resources, became foundational to his artistic vision. Drawing served as his initial form of expression and escape, and his pursuit of education led him to become the first in his family to attend college. Silva earned an Associate of Arts degree from Imperial Valley College and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.

Silva began his professional career as an illustrator, gaining recognition for his culturally rich imagery. His work appeared on the cover of Time Magazine and in publications such as the children's books "Gathering the Sun: An Alphabet in Spanish and English" by Alma Flor Ada and "Mariposas" by Francisco Jiménez. His style, characterized by bold colors and imagery reflecting the Latino working-class experience, established him as a prominent figure in Chicano art. Silva later transitioned into fine art and painting, blending personal memory with cultural themes. His artwork has been exhibited in venues worldwide, and his paintings, posters, and greeting cards have reached audiences across the United States.

As Silva's public profile expanded, his personal story led to invitations to speak to at-risk students and community groups, launching a parallel career as a public speaker and educator.
