Sebene Selassie

Sebene Selassie is a writer, teacher, and meditation practitioner whose work explores the intersections of mindfulness, identity, belonging, and social transformation. She is best known for bringing contemplative practice into conversation with issues of race, culture, and personal healing, helping audiences engage with meditation in a grounded and accessible way.

She is the author of "You Belong: A Call for Connection," a widely regarded book that blends Buddhist philosophy, somatic awareness, and personal reflection to explore how individuals can cultivate a deeper sense of belonging within themselves and in the world. Selassie draws on her training in Buddhist meditation and her experience as a teacher to offer practices that emphasize awareness, compassion, and embodied presence.

In addition to her writing, Selassie teaches meditation and mindfulness in workshops, courses, and retreats, and has worked with organizations focused on personal development and contemplative practice. Selassie received a BA from McGill University in Montreal, where she studied Comparative Religious Studies and Women’s Studies and an MA in Media Studies from the New School in New York City, where she focused on cultural studies and race.
