Sam Bierstock

Dr. Sam Bierstock is a board-certified physician, electrical engineer, award-winning songwriter, and healthcare informaticist whose career spans medicine, technology, and music. Trained in internal medicine and as a board-certified eye surgeon, Bierstock has also worked as an electrical engineer and a pioneer in medical office information systems. He has served as a healthcare information systems consultant and has published extensively in professional literature, focusing on the adoption of computerized provider order entry and clinical transformation in healthcare.

Bierstock has been recognized for his early application of computer technology to medical practices, assisting colleagues in selecting and installing office computer systems. His expertise in healthcare technology and medical informatics has made him a sought-after speaker at healthcare events, professional conferences, corporate meetings, conventions, and political events across more than 40 states.

In addition to his medical and technological work, Bierstock is a professional musician who has used music to educate the public about healthcare issues. He founded Dr. Sam & the Managed Care Blues Band, which gained national attention for its satirical parody songs addressing managed care and healthcare policy. The band has been featured in national publications such as People Magazine and USA Today, and on broadcast channels including CNN, FOX TV, and National Public Radio.

A significant moment in Bierstock’s musical career occurred after an encounter with a World War II veteran, inspiring him to write the award-winning song "Before You Go." The song, which honors aging veterans, has reached millions and earned Bierstock the George Washington Medal from the Freedom Foundation. "Before You Go" has been played more than 20 million times worldwide and is regarded as an anthem for World War II veterans. Bierstock also served on the board of Veterans Helping Heroes, a nonprofit organization supporting wounded and injured veterans by providing service dogs.

Bierstock continued his creative pursuits with the Bedpandemic Blues Band, which used instruments crafted from hospital bed pans to highlight issues related to health and virus protocols. These unique instruments were appraised at more than $100,000. Expanding into fiction, Bierstock authored the novel "Full Circle," which explores themes of music, memory, and emotional healing. The novel was featured on PBS’s "Between the Covers."
