Ryan Robinson is recognized as the world's first quantum engineer. After studying mechatronics and completing the curriculum content in a two-year period at MIT, Robinson transitioned to information theory and quantum computing under Professor Seth Lloyd, who authored foundational work on building quantum computers. Under Lloyd's guidance, Robinson created a major in quantum engineering, combining computer science, information theory, quantum computing, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, materials, systems, and design. Robinson completed studies at MIT with three majors: mechatronics, international humanities, and quantum engineering, while also pursuing graduate-level coursework in computer science, big data, and literature.
Robinson applied his academic background to entrepreneurship by founding Conduit and serving as its CEO. Conduit provides hybrid cloud computing models and solutions for financial administrators, focusing on investment decision-making and computational innovation. At MIT, Robinson introduced Conduit's technologies, which accelerated supercomputing tasks and drew comparisons to leading figures in technology. Conduit collaborated with the White House COVID-19 High-Performance Computing Consortium to support research on SARS-CoV-2 and other coronaviral diseases, with Robinson and his team among the youngest participants in the Consortium.
Robinson's work at the intersection of quantum technology and public health includes the development of "nanoSPLASH," an at-home COVID-19 diagnostic test that combines nanotechnology and synthetic biology to detect new strains of the virus. He also developed "BlueDot," a consumer quantum device. Robinson has contributed to education as lead instructor of the Cancer Drug Kinematics course for the WRAP department at MIT and as a professor of quantum engineering at Knovva Academy.
Robinson has received recognition such as the Black Excellence Award from the Harvard African Student Association and has been cited by TEDx for his expertise in quantum computing. His work has appeared in MIT News, American Inno, Boston Business Journal, Information Age, CNN, Moguldom, Forbes, and World News. In addition to his work in science and technology, Robinson is a published poet and jazz saxophonist, contributing to discussions on quantum technology, diversity in STEM, and innovation in addressing global challenges.
