Rumaitha Al Busaidi

Rumaitha Al Busaidi is an Omani marine scientist, climate activist, entrepreneur, and women's rights advocate whose work spans environmental policy, youth leadership, and gender equity. Al Busaidi holds Master of Science degrees in environmental science and aquaculture, as well as a Master of Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School. Her academic background, which includes studies at Sultan Qaboos University, Utrecht University, and Oxford, provides an interdisciplinary foundation for addressing global environmental challenges.

Al Busaidi is recognized as the first female football analyst in the Arab world and became the youngest Omani woman to cross the South Pole. This experience exposed her to the realities of climate change and motivated her commitment to environmental advocacy. She is also a member of the first group of women from the Gulf Cooperation Council to summit the highest peak in Oman and has pursued the goal of becoming the first Arab woman to complete the seven volcanic summits.

Central to Al Busaidi's advocacy is the role of women in addressing the climate crisis. Her TED Talk, "Women and Girls: You Are Part of the Climate Solution," has reached a global audience, examining why women are disproportionately affected by climate change and highlighting the importance of education, employment, and family planning in climate resilience. Al Busaidi has participated in the TED Countdown and has spoken at the World Economic Forum's Davos Agenda on global climate change.

Al Busaidi's influence extends to international policy, where she has advised the U.S. administration on climate resilience standards for foreign aid, the government of Greenland on sustainable tourism, and the Arab League on youth empowerment in climate negotiations. She is a member of the Arab Youth Council on Climate Change and co-chair of the World Economic Forum's Davos Lab, contributing to a youth recovery plan with policy recommendations from over 2 million young people worldwide. Al Busaidi serves as business development manager at Hydrom, a leader in green hydrogen development in Oman, and is an executive board director of the Environment Society of Oman.

Her work on climate change has been recognized by the United Nations, the European Union, and NATO. Al Busaidi has been named in Reuters' climate hot list and their Top 25 Women in Climate Change list. She is the first Omani to appear on the BBC 100 Women list. As the founder of WomeX, a platform that combines artificial intelligence and culturally relevant mentoring for women, Al Busaidi continues to support the advancement of Arab women in climate action and global leadership.
