Roy Schoenberg

Dr. Roy Schoenberg is a physician-entrepreneur recognized for his role in advancing telehealth and digital healthcare delivery in the United States. Schoenberg completed his medical training at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and participated in the Harvard-MIT Fellowship Program in Clinical Informatics. He also earned a Master of Public Health in healthcare management from the Harvard School of Public Health. Prior to founding his company, Schoenberg served as a senior associate at the Center for Clinical Computing at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School, where he developed expertise at the intersection of medicine and technology.

Schoenberg co-founded Amwell with Ido Schoenberg, introducing telehealth technology that connects patients and providers through video and asynchronous communication. The company initially focused on improving healthcare access in underserved areas. Under Schoenberg's leadership, Amwell became publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker AMWL, serving major health systems, health plans, and employers, and supporting digital healthcare for millions of patients and thousands of clinicians.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Schoenberg collaborated with payers, providers, and regulators to maintain healthcare delivery through technology, expanding the Amwell platform to reach a global audience. He later led the development of the Amwell Converge platform, designed to support integrated in-person and digital care. Schoenberg has experience in mergers and acquisitions, positioning Amwell as a leader in telemedicine and digital health through strategic partnerships.

Schoenberg's influence extends beyond Amwell. He was appointed to the Federation of State Medical Boards' task force that established guidelines for the appropriate use of telemedicine. He received the American Telemedicine Association Industry Award for leadership and was named to Modern Healthcare's 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare. Schoenberg also received the Entrepreneur of the Year award in New England from EY. He holds more than 50 issued U.S. patents in healthcare technology, speaks at industry and policy forums, and serves on the healthcare advisory board of MIT Sloan.

Schoenberg transitioned from president and co-CEO to executive vice chairman of Amwell's board of directors, continuing to guide the company's strategic direction. He is a frequent speaker at the American Medical Informatics Association and other conferences, and serves on the advisory boards of the MIT Sloan Health Initiative, Brigham and Women's Hospital Center for Patient Safety Research and Practice, and the American Heart Association Telehealth board.
