Ronnie Barnes Biography
Ronnie Barnes is a football athletic trainer and the head athletic trainer for the New York Giants of the National Football League. He is also the team's senior vice president of medical services. Barnes has been with the Giants since 1976, starting as a training intern before being promoted to a full-time trainer in 1980 and head trainer in 1981.
Barnes' career is not without its accolades. In 1983 and 1987, he won the National Professional Athletic Trainer of the Year award. Barnes won Super Bowls XXI, XXV, XLII, and XLVI with the Giants and was inducted into the Giants Ring of Honor in 2022.
Barnes graduated from East Carolina University in 1975 where he was the first African American graduate of the Sports Medicine Department, before going on to become the first African-American head athletic trainer in the NFL. In 1990, Barnes was inducted into the ECU Athletics Hall of Fame. He later received his master's degree from Michigan State University.
