Robert Rasmussen

Robert Rasmussen is the co-founder and CEO of Agile Six, a fully remote company that collaborates with federal agencies to develop innovative, human-centered solutions in government digital services and civic technology. Rasmussen has more than 20 years of experience in the information technology industry, holding roles from system administrator to program director.

Rasmussen adopted the phrase "We've got your six" during his service in the U.S. Navy, where he worked as a network and systems engineer before transitioning to the private sector. He later spent a decade in the telecommunications sector, including time at Ericsson, before returning to the United States to focus on government IT contracting.

The U.S. Digital Service released its Playbook outlining 13 key plays for building successful digital services, which served as a catalyst for Rasmussen and his co-founder to establish Agile Six. The company is dedicated to helping government agencies implement these best practices. Agile Six encountered challenges, particularly with the readiness of federal ecosystems for digital transformation at scale. In response, the company adapted its approach by incorporating coaching services to help staff prepare for organizational change. Since its founding, Agile Six has contributed to the growth of the civic tech marketplace and expanded to more than 100 employees.

As a veteran, Rasmussen has spoken about the sacrifices required by military service and founded Agile Six with a mission rooted in honoring that commitment. This dedication is evident in the company's partnership with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Agile Six operates as a full-spectrum digital services, Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business, offering government transformation, service delivery, agile coaching, and a team-based culture. Rasmussen also initiated the group that evolved into the Digital Services Coalition, a community for non-traditional contractors, with Agile Six as a founding member. The coalition is committed to building better technology for government.

Agile Six has implemented a self-management model, rejecting multi-layered hierarchies and traditional titles in favor of coaches working alongside teams as peers. Rasmussen has advocated for this approach to organizational culture, emphasizing the importance of cultivating authentic workplace environments driven by shared values and purpose. He has played a key role in advancing agile transformation within government IT projects and is recognized for building strong teams and cultures that deliver results.

Rasmussen is also a published author. His book, "Better Places: Building Stronger Communities With Authenticity and Compassion," received a Silver Medal at the Global Book Awards in Business Leadership. The book explores his journey from confronting unrealistic standards to advocating for compassionate, interdependent communities, and examines principles such as Nonviolent Communication and Humanism. Combining memoir, management insights, and perspectives on spiritual wellness, Rasmussen offers a distinctive viewpoint on building compassionate, authentic, and values-driven organizations in the civic tech and government digital services sectors.
