Robert Pio Hajjar

Robert Pio Hajjar is a Canadian motivational speaker, author, and disability rights advocate known for his work in promoting inclusion and self-determination for individuals with Down syndrome and other disabilities. Born with Down syndrome, Hajjar overcame significant early medical challenges, including congenital heart disease, gastrointestinal issues, and pneumonia. Despite initial medical predictions that he would never walk or talk, Hajjar has become a prominent figure in disability advocacy and public speaking.

Hajjar's keynote presentation, "I Can, YOU Can," has reached more than 550,000 people in 100 cities across North America. His message emphasizes the importance of love, encouragement, and opportunity in unlocking individual potential. He has presented to audiences in corporate, educational, and community settings. Hajjar is also the author of the book "I Love My Life," which shares his personal philosophy and encourages readers to approach their own lives with courage and gratitude.

In addition to his speaking engagements, Hajjar co-founded IDEAL Way, a charity supporting people who are differently abled. He contributed his entire life savings of $62.05 to launch the organization. Through the IDEAL Gives Program, IDEAL Way has provided merchandise and hot meals valued at more than $705,000 to individuals experiencing poverty. The organization received the June Callwood Outstanding Achievement Award for Voluntarism from Ontario's Ministry of Citizenship, Immigration and International Trade. Hajjar also inspired the "I Can, You Can" program, implemented in the Thames Valley District School Board to promote inclusion among students.

Hajjar's advocacy has been recognized with several honors, including the United Nations-designated World Down Syndrome Day Award from Down Syndrome International, the City of Toronto Unsung Hero Award, and the Canadian Down Syndrome Society Self-Advocate of the Year Award. He was appointed to the Order of Ontario, the province's highest civilian honor, and is believed to be the only recipient with an intellectual disability to receive this distinction. Fanshawe College awarded him an Honorary Diploma in recognition of his impact at local, provincial, national, and international levels. Hajjar continues to advance disability rights and inclusion through his public speaking, writing, and philanthropic work.
