Robert Barro

Robert Barro is a prominent figure in the world of economics, currently holding the title of Paul M. Warburg Professor of Economics at Harvard University. In addition, Barro is also a senior fellow at Stanford University's Hoover Institution and a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. His academic work is widely recognized and he has held positions such as co-editor of the Quarterly Journal of Economics and Vice President of the American Economic Association in 1998. He is considered a founder of new classical macroeconomics and has been a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) since 1978.

Barro has made significant contributions to the field of economics through his written works. His influential 1974 paper "Are Government Bonds Net Wealth?" and the 1971 article "A General Disequilibrium Model of Income and Employment," which he collaborated on, are notable examples. He has also authored key textbooks such as "Money, Employment, and Inflation" in 1976 with Herschel Grossman, and "Economic Growth" with Xavier Sala-i-Martin in 1995. His 1984 textbook "Macroeconomics" remains a standard in the field.

Barro has received numerous recognitions for his work, including election as a Fellow of the Econometric Society in 1980 and to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1988. He was also awarded an honorary doctorate from Universidad Francisco Marroquin. Furthermore, the Research Papers in Economics (RePEc) project ranked him as the fifth most influential economist in the world as of March 2016. His work has been featured in major publications such as The Wall Street Journal and Forbes, showcasing his active participation in discussions and debates on economic policies.
